Red Sea scrap import and export

Jeddah Islamic Port serves the western half of Saudi Arabia and is the sea door for the Kingdom’s scrap trade on the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia produces more scrap than it once did, from construction, demolition and the oil industry, and much of it is consumed by the country’s own electric-furnace mills; the surplus, particularly non-ferrous, leaves through Jeddah in containers for India and Pakistan.

The port also imports scrap for the mills of the western region when local collection falls short. Saudi export rules for scrap have changed several times; the current position is on our Saudi Arabia page.
