Bulk scrap loading for deep-sea cargoes
Bulk scrap loading for deep-sea cargoes
Bremerhaven, at the mouth of the Weser, is one of Germany’s main deep-sea scrap loading points. Ferrous scrap from north-west Germany and the Ruhr arrives by rail and barge and is loaded onto bulk carriers bound for Turkey, Egypt and South Asia. The nearby Bremen steelworks, an integrated mill on the Weser, is a local scrap consumer.
The port’s container terminals carry non-ferrous scrap to Asia alongside Hamburg, and the Bremen–Bremerhaven region hosts several large scrap processors and shredders.
