Scrap imports for Pakistan’s mills
Scrap imports for Pakistan’s mills
Karachi Port and Port Qasim handle the imported scrap on which Pakistan’s steel industry depends. The country’s induction and electric-furnace mills in Karachi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Islamabad take HMS, shredded and bundles from the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Gulf and Australia, mostly in containers but also in bulk at Port Qasim.
Non-ferrous scrap — copper, brass, aluminium and insulated wire — also enters here for the processing industries of Karachi and Lahore. Import conditions, including inspection and radiation requirements, are set by the Pakistani authorities and summarised on our Pakistan page.
