Eastern Canada scrap port
Eastern Canada scrap port
Montreal and the St Lawrence ports handle the scrap trade of Quebec and Ontario. Eastern Canada’s EAF mills at Contrecœur and Hamilton consume much of the region’s scrap, and the surplus is exported through Montreal in bulk to Turkey and in containers to India and Asia. Non-ferrous scrap also leaves through Montreal and, overland, through the US ports.
The St Lawrence’s winter navigation season and the port’s river position shape the seasonal pattern of Canadian exports.
