Vancouver is the scrap gateway of western Canada. British Columbia and Alberta generate ferrous and non-ferrous scrap for which there are few local mills, and the port ships it in bulk and in containers to South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, China and India. A large scrap processor operates on the Fraser River and Burrard Inlet.
Vancouver also serves as a transhipment point for scrap moving between the US Pacific North-west and Asia.
