Hamriyah Free Zone in Sharjah is where a large part of the UAE’s scrap processing physically happens: shredders, balers, cable granulators and sorting lines operate inside the zone, close to the port, and export the finished grades to India, Pakistan and Asia. The zone was built around heavy industry and attracts scrap processors with yard space that Dubai no longer offers.
Hamriyah also hosts steel mills and re-rollers that consume local scrap, so the port works as both an export point and a mill-side port.
