Scrap import, EAF mills and ship recycling
Scrap import, EAF mills and ship recycling
Aliağa, north of İzmir, is one of the three Turkish scrap-importing hubs and the one with the widest range of activity. Electric-arc furnace mills line the bay and take bulk scrap cargoes from the United States, Europe and the Black Sea at their own jetties; Turkey’s ship-recycling zone lies on the same shore; and port terminals handle scrap for mills further inland.
The Aegean mills’ purchases are reported almost daily and feed the Turkish import price that the world trade follows. Our Aliağa city page covers the mills and the ship-recycling plots in detail.
