Los Angeles – Long Beach in the scrap trade

West Coast scrap export

The twin ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are the largest container complex in the Americas and the main West Coast gateway for scrap. Containerised copper, aluminium, brass, stainless and e-waste leave for China, India, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan on daily services, and bulk ferrous scrap from the Southern California shredders loads at terminals in the harbour for Asian buyers.

Southern California generates a large scrap surplus β€” the region has few mills of its own β€” so the port is an exporter in both bulk and boxes, and its shipments respond quickly to Asian prices.
