Port Newark – New York in the scrap trade

East Coast bulk and container scrap export

The Port of New York and New Jersey, with its scrap terminals at Port Newark, Jersey City and along the Arthur Kill, is the largest scrap-exporting complex on the US East Coast. Bulk ferrous scrap from the north-east loads for Turkey and the Mediterranean, and the port’s container terminals ship copper, aluminium, brass and stainless scrap to India, China and South-East Asia.

The north-eastern United States has the oldest industrial base in the country and a scrap surplus to match; the Turkish mills’ weekly purchases from the East Coast are a central component of the world ferrous price.
