Pacific North-west bulk scrap export

Tacoma and the Puget Sound ports are the Pacific North-west’s scrap export base. One of the largest US scrap processors operates a deep-water terminal here that loads bulk ferrous scrap β€” shredded and HMS from Washington, Oregon and Alaska β€” for South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Bangladesh. The region also exports containerised non-ferrous scrap through Seattle and Tacoma.

The Pacific North-west has a single regional EAF mill, so most of its scrap goes to sea, and Tacoma’s cargoes are a regular feature of the Korean and Taiwanese import figures.
