Mundra in the scrap trade

Bulk and container scrap imports

Mundra, on the Gulf of Kutch, has become the largest private port in India and a leading scrap gateway for Gujarat. It takes bulk ferrous cargoes for the stateโ€™s induction-furnace and re-rolling industry and containerised non-ferrous scrap for the Jamnagar brass cluster and the aluminium and copper processors of Kutch and Saurashtra.

Its deep draught, rail connection and proximity to Kutchโ€™s industrial estates mean that cargoes from the Gulf, the United States and Europe can be discharged and moved to the furnace within days. Mundra and Kandla together are the main reason Gujarat leads India in scrap consumption.
