Container scrap imports for western India

Jawaharlal Nehru Port, across the harbour from Mumbai, is Indiaโ€™s largest container port and the main entry for containerised scrap into Maharashtra and the rest of western India. Copper, brass, aluminium, stainless and ferrous scrap in boxes from the Gulf, the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe are cleared here and trucked to the mills and foundries of Maharashtra, Gujarat and beyond.

Customs clearance of scrap at JNPT follows the Indian import conditions โ€” pre-shipment inspection certificates, radiation checks and the hazardous-waste rules for mixed and contaminated material โ€” and the portโ€™s container freight stations are where disputes over grade and weight are settled.
