Container imports of recycled metal raw material
Shanghai is the worldβs largest container port and, since China reclassified scrap, the main entry for recycled copper, brass, aluminium and steel raw material that meets the national standards. Compliant material arrives in containers from Japan, the United States, Europe, Malaysia and Thailand and clears through the Yangshan and Waigaoqiao terminals for the processing zones of Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
Chinese customs inspects imported recycled metal strictly against the GB standards, and non-compliant cargoes are returned. The Yangtze delta behind the port holds the largest concentration of secondary copper and aluminium capacity in the world.
