Recycled-metal processing in the free-trade zone
Zhangjiagang, on the Yangtze in Jiangsu, is a river port with a free-trade zone that was one of the first in China to be approved for the import and processing of recycled metal. Copper, aluminium and stainless raw material arrive by container and by river transhipment from Shanghai and are processed by the zoneβs secondary smelters and stainless producers.
A large stainless-steel complex and several copper and aluminium remelters sit beside the port, making Zhangjiagang a mill-side port for non-ferrous and stainless scrap.
