The BIR’s autumn convention moves outside Europe — Dubai, Singapore, Miami, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and Bangkok have all hosted it — to meet the trade in the importing regions. The format is the same as the spring event: commodity round-tables, a trading floor, and the association’s world reports, with a stronger Middle East and Asian attendance when the city is in those regions.
The autumn convention falls at the time of year when the ferrous trade is pricing winter cargoes and the non-ferrous trade is reading the exchange prices for the year end, so the market commentary from its round-tables is widely reported.
