The Material Recycling Association of India is the national body of India’s scrap and recycling trade, and its annual international conference has become the meeting point for everyone who sells scrap into India — the largest growing importer of ferrous, aluminium, copper and brass scrap. Exporters from the US, the UK, Europe, the Gulf, Australia and Japan come to meet the Indian mills, the Jamnagar brass buyers, the secondary aluminium smelters and the traders of Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat.
The conference also carries the policy conversation between the trade and the Indian government on import conditions, inspection, BIS standards and the circular-economy programme, and it is where changes to Indian scrap rules are usually first explained to the international trade.
