Indonesia in the Global Melting Scrap Trade

Indonesia's steel industry is anchored in Cilegon on the western tip of Java, home to the state-owned Krakatau Steel complex, with private electric-furnace producers clustered around Jakarta, Bekasi, and Surabaya. In the past decade the Morowali industrial park in Sulawesi has grown into one of the world's largest stainless steel and nickel processing centres.

Copper smelting is concentrated at Gresik in East Java, while the state aluminium producer operates at Kuala Tanjung in North Sumatra. Several of the country's larger metals producers are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and mills reference ReMA grade specifications for imported material.
