Poland in the Global Melting Scrap Trade

Poland is Central Europe's biggest steel producer, combining ArcelorMittal Poland's integrated works in Silesia with strong electric arc furnace players — CMC Poland at Zawiercie, Cognor, and Celsa's Huta Ostrowiec — that keep the country an active buyer and processor of ferrous scrap.

KGHM Polska Miedź, one of the world's major copper producers, operates smelters in Lower Silesia that also process copper-bearing scrap. The Kęty region hosts both Grupa Kęty's aluminium operations and Alumetal's secondary aluminium alloy plants, and Poland retains working zinc smelting capacity in Silesia. Several producers are listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
