Thailand in the Global Melting Scrap Trade

Thailand's steel industry is built around electric arc furnace producers in and around Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard industrial zones of Rayong and Chonburi, making the country a regular importer of ferrous scrap alongside its active domestic collection network.

Japanese investment is prominent — Nippon Steel controls the G Steel and G J Steel electric furnace mills, and major Japanese aluminium rolling capacity operates at Rayong. Several producers are listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and mills buy against ReMA grade specifications.
