Spain in the Global Melting Scrap Trade

Spain's steel industry is one of Europe's most scrap-intensive — the great majority of Spanish steel is produced in electric arc furnaces, from the CELSA group around Barcelona to Sidenor in the Basque Country, Megasa in Galicia, and ArcelorMittal's EAF at Sestao.

Acerinox, headquartered in Madrid with its main works at Los Barrios near Cádiz, is one of the world's leading stainless steel producers. Copper is anchored by Atlantic Copper's smelter at Huelva and Cunext in Córdoba, alongside the historic copper recycler La Farga in Catalonia. Several producers are listed on the Spanish stock exchanges.
