Taiwan in the Global Melting Scrap Trade
Taiwan's steel industry combines the large integrated works of China Steel Corporation at Kaohsiung with a deep bench of electric arc furnace producers — Tung Ho, Feng Hsin, Wei Chih, and others — that make Taiwan one of Asia's steadiest buyers of imported ferrous scrap.
Kaohsiung is also the centre of the island's stainless steel industry, and the Lukang–Changhua belt — known as Taiwan's 'Faucet Town' — hosts one of the world's great brass-working clusters, whose foundries and machining shops both consume and generate large volumes of brass scrap. Most of the larger producers are listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and buy against ReMA grade specifications.
